Chanakya is a 47-part epic Indian television historical dramawritten and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi that was originallytelecast on DD National from 8 September 1991 to 9 August 1992. Produced by Prakash Dwivedi, the series is a fictionalized account of the life and times of 4th century BCE Indian economist, strategist and Indian political theorist Chanakya(also known as Vishnugupta) and is based on events occurring between340 BCE and 321/20 BCE, starting with Chanakya's boyhood and culminatingin the coronation of Chandragupta Maurya. Chandraprakash Dwivedi played the title role of Chanakya. The Chanakya TV series is divided into three major parts:. The early life of Vishnugupta in the kingdom of Magadhaand the circumstances leading to his self-imposed exile, particularlythe persecution (and subsequent death) of his father at the hands of Dhanananda, King of Magadha.
The invasion of northwestern India by Alexander,his death and the rebellion led by native Indian kingdoms under theleadership of Chandragupta Maurya against Alexander's successors inIndia. I have watched it twice, but even when I watched it the second time, it didn't inspire me less than it did the first time. It teaches many good things and the best thing I like is the theme that if you are following the truth and have faith in your beliefs, no matter how many obstacles or hurdles you face, don't give up and you will win one day.
I would give it a 9/10 (just because at some places it has been prolonged unnecessarily, dances etc. Were not that needed).
