Get -AppXPackage' method from elevated PowerShell,2. Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from elevated cmd,3. Sfc /scannow from elevated cmd,4. Deleting%USERPROFILE%/.blf and.reg-trans files,5. Ntpq p .init. 16 u 128 0 0.000 0.000 0.000. Deleting%USERPROFILE%/AppData/TileDataLayer folder (which made my tiles on Start Menu dissappear completly),6.
Deleting%ProgramData%/Microsoft/Search folderand none of this resolved the issue! All I see around internet is to create a NEW USER PROFILE which I have created several times now, and I refuse to do so any more!I have seen a forum thread in which someone claims to have reset some text service and in that way managed to fix this. I haven't tried this and lost the internet link somewhere, ahh. This is the problem with user profile config files, as on another user profile Search works fine, despite Windows Search and Indexing ToubleShooter finding some file and folder permissions problems, which it is unable to fix!So does anyone know how to fix user profile so Search works again?!? I had this exact problem and like you didn't like the 'create a new profile' answer as a solution. I've resolved this issue for myself without having to do that and figured I'd relay my steps:Note: I did all the file manipulation from a bootable USB linux distro, you can probably do this all from windows provided you're not logged into the accounts you're using below. you might not have to do this step, so try without first Delete anything 'cortana' in your user profile AppData folder (c:Users your-profile-nameAppData). I did a search for 'cortana' in the root of AppData then deleted everything. Navigate to a user profile AppData folder that cortana still works under and copy this folder and all its files in this path:c:Users Different-working-profileAppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.Windows.Cortana string of random charsto the same location under your profile (if you followed step one, you have deleted this folder).
reboot the machine into your profile. At this point cortana was working again 'sort of' for me as I could search again, but I could not launch applications (just applications, files would open).
